Samoëns, Morillon, Flaine, Les Carroz and Sixt the always fantastic “Le Grand Massif“

Winter is coming

Although the weather is absolutely breathtaking in Autumn here, there is now a chill in the evenings and temperatures can change day to day.

The first snow fell on the top of Le Buet last week and kids are back to school. So Winters’ on it’s way !

We have exciting news for the ski area this season, last years opening up of the valley between Samoens and Morillon was a great success and this season they are adding to the super fast Coulouvier chairlift with it’s excellent 2 new blue runs. They are adding 2 more new reds, they have nearly finished the red run from the Samoens side and a Morillon red is planned to also be ready for this season.

Another exciting project is now also on the way, the proposed Sixt-Flaine link. Connecting the resorts of Sixt and Flaine via a lift system has been in discussion for years, and we are excited that this project is now officially underway.

The plan is for two new lifts that will link Sixt and Flaine using our favourite off piste bowl the Combe de Gers. There would be an arrival and departure station from Lac du Gers and the painful long Gers draglift will also be replaced by a fixed chairlift yay ! Therefore avoiding the feeling that your hip may dislocated at any moment will be amazing. The improvements will also include kilometres of new pistes and three new runs to access the new chairlifts.

A Grand plan, for the Grand Massif on an epic scale opening the already epic Gers !!

Samoens, Flaine and Les Carroz are also planning to open a week earlier on the 15 th Dec which is all Great news !! The lift company are hoping for another bumper snowy season like the marvellous 2017 /2018 season. Grand Massif is just getting better by the year – can’t wait to ski and make some fresh tracks !!

Samoëns and Le Grand Massif – The Hidden Gem that just got even better !

The Grand Massif is expanding opening up the untouched valley between Samoëns and Morillon.  Adding a new lift which will be Europe’s longest lift of its kind.  Climbing an impressive 944 vertical metres over a distance of 2574m, the New Coulouvrier lift will be capable of transporting 3000 passengers per hour at a speed of 6 metres  a second. This will also divide numbers of skiers using the 6 man Chariande Express. This winter, two new blue pistes will allow ski access to the speedy new Coulouvrier lift from both Samoëns and Morillon.    And the off piste between will be awesome !!

The new lift will also be another route to the whole lift system linking all the Grand Massifs’ great and varied skiing. We have skiing for every level from a steep Black in Samoēns or Flaine to wide and tree lined pistes of Les Carroz – the longest Green run in Europe is in Morillon the lovely Marvel –  Perfect for beginner and children love it.  Or the even longer Blue les casdade all the way down into Sixt truely stunning.  One of my favorite runs is in Samoēns, it’s the home run Le Grand Cret down to Vercland and then into a great après ski bar at the bottom with their big log fire.

Another is to drop into the challenging off piste bowl Le Gers at the back of Flaine on a powder day there is nowhere better !

One of the Best ever Views is from the top of Fred in Flaine with the Mont Blanc range straight ahead  wow !

Le Grand Massif has absolutely something for everyone.   The skiing is fantastic,  it’s easy to find you way round between the 5 resorts and the restaurants are great from self service quick snacks to a cosy fondue by the fire or Michelin star with table cloths in your ski boots.
